I am delighted to announce that I will be joining Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company (in DC) as an understudy for Tanya (the lead) in Woolly Mammoth’s Incendiary by Dave Harris.
I am soooooo freaking excited and over the moon.
Swimming in a sea of gratitude.
I get to graduate from Adler with a job!!!!!!!!!
I’m hitting the ground running. (Had to use a cliché.)
Not. Gonna. Lie.
This is a daunting role.
Tanya is onstage for every scene.
Part of the gift of this role is that I’m able to apply everything I’ve learned at Adler.
Just like I did in my final year plays.
There’s a lot of background work in preparing for a role.
The student in me checked in with Adler’s Artistic Director for some advice and guidance about the work I’ve done so far.
We went over the work I’ve done and he made some suggestions.
Which I immediately applied.
… and then he said the thing that everyone tells me:
You’ve done the work, now get out of your head!
I was in DC on May 2nd for a read-through of the script with the cast which was followed by a reception.
Vital members of Woolly Mammoth’s community were there.
Was thrilled to meet the members of Woolly staff and cast and production team.
My life has been the Incendiary script.
Here’s the description of Incendiary:
Tanya is a Black mother determined to break her son, Eric, out of death row — or die trying. She’ll need guns, to get her hair done, and to f*ck some people up. As time ticks towards the fateful date of Eric’s execution (and birthday), the play explodes into a collision of the hilarious and tragic. In this world premiere, playwright Dave Harris harnesses the storytelling techniques of comic books and video games to explore the complexities of generational trauma and daring heroism with his singular, satirical style.
Incendiary runs from May 29th through June 25.
Certain performances will include: ASL interpretation, audio description and open captions.
Here’s the link to tickets and show info.
For my pals with (ahem) financial challenges they also have two pay what you will shows.
I’ve talked with people at Adler about being an understudy… getting their advice and guidance.
The small world universe also joined in.
The company manager at Woolly was in the child chorus of Werther at the Washington National Opera when I was a supernumerary in that show.
She remembered me!
Sooooooo for now, I’m returning to DC.
It’ll be nice to be home for a while.
I get back on May 15th.
Hoping to catch up with my DC fam.
I left in the middle of the pandemic so it’s been years since I’ve seen y’all.
My blog won’t end with my graduation from Adler and I’m hoping you’ll continue to follow my adventures!
